Nipple reduction surgery helps achieve a smaller nipple and areola sizeThe size of nipples can depend on a number of factors, including genetics, childbirth, or undergoing tissue loss. Both men and women can reap the benefits of nipple reduction surgery. Nipple reduction surgery removes excess areola tissue, thereby decreasing the nipple size. Nipple symmetry can also be achieved by this surgery. This surgery can be combined with other surgical procedures. General anesthesia is usually used in this surgery. Light sleep sedation can also be used. The patient is allowed to return home within a few hours after the surgery; however they are usually not allowed to drive on their own. Most patients experience very light pain following the surgery. To help reduce swelling and bruising, patients are required to wear a surgical bra or gauze bandage for several days after the surgery. Normal activity can be resumed after about a week. |
