Dermabrasion and dermaplaning are the most common ways to treat facial scars from accidents or acne.
These two procedures are most commonly used o facial scarring that can result from accidents, previous surgeries or acne. These methods are safe to be performed on smaller skin areas or on the entire facial area. Dermabrasion and dermaplaning can be used alone or in conjunction with other facial treatments like a chemical peel. Neither treatment can remove all scars, however most people find that their scars’ appearance is nearly gone.
the surgeon uses a rough wire brush to scrape off the outer layer of the skin surrounding the scar. The surgeon continues to scrape until he reaches the lowest safest level to make the scar disappear. Dermaplaning requires an instrument called a dermatone. A dermatone has an oscillating blade and looks like a razor. Using this instrument, the surgeon skims off layers of skin. This is done until the scar appears smoother near the surrounding skin. Both surgeries do not require a long time and can be done as little as an hour and a half. Some are even done within a few minutes. Both procedures are usually done more than once, especially when a large area is involved or the scarring is very deep. After the procedure is done, the surgeon will apply a skin treatment such as an ointment.
the skin may permanently change color. Darkening generally occurs with those who expose themselves to the sun for prolonged periods of time soon after the surgery. The lightening of skin is more common, especially in the form of blotching.
dermabrasion and dermaplaning procedures cost less than $2000.
It’s important to find out about all the other types of skin care programs available. If your scarring is minor, consider non-surgical procedures like chemical peels. |
