Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgeries Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is one of the most common plastic surgeries. A patient may choose to reduce or increase the size of their nose or change the shape of the tip or bridge . Other possible changes include narrowing the span of the nostrils or changing the angle between the nose and the upper lip. During the procedure, the skin of the nose is separated from the framework of the bone and the cartilage. Once the sculpting work is finished on the bone and cartilage, the skin is reattached. Many surgeons operate from within the nose, making the incisions inside the nostrils. This generally results in less scarring. Others perform an open procedure, making a small incision across the colomell (this is the part that separates the nostrils). The open technique is generally used for more complicated changes. After the completion of the surgery, a splint is applied to help maintain the new shape. During the first 24 hours after the rhinoplasty, the patient will experience some puffiness in the face, nose aches and headaches. Swelling and bruising will peak in about 2 to 3 days and will disappear within 2 weeks. After a few days the nasal packing, splints and all stitches will be removed. |
