Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgeries

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is one of the most common plastic surgeries. A patient may choose to reduce or increase the size of their nose or change the shape of the tip or bridge .Rhinoplasty nose surgery

Other possible changes include narrowing the span of the nostrils or changing the angle between the nose and the upper lip.

Before undergoing rhinoplasty surgery, patients and doctors discuss the desired results of the surgery. The doctor will evaluate the patient's wants and current structure of the nose and face. It's important to tell the surgeon of any previous nose surgery or injury to the nose. The surgery usually lasts for 1 to 2 hours.

During the procedure, the skin of the nose is separated from the framework of the bone and the cartilage. Once the sculpting work is finished on the bone and cartilage, the skin is reattached. Many surgeons operate from within the nose, making the incisions inside the nostrils. This generally results in less scarring. Others perform an open procedure, making a small incision across the colomell (this is the part that separates the nostrils).

The open technique is generally used for more complicated changes. After the completion of the surgery, a splint is applied to help maintain the new shape. During the first 24 hours after the rhinoplasty, the patient will experience some puffiness in the face, nose aches and headaches. Swelling and bruising will peak in about 2 to 3 days and will disappear within 2 weeks. After a few days the nasal packing, splints and all stitches will be removed.

Complications are infrequent with this surgery. However, infections, nosebleeds and reactions to anesthesia can occur. Patients may decrease the risk of these by following the surgeon's instructions closely. Sometimes, a patient will require a second procedure in order to current minor defects.

The cost of rhinoplasty ranges from $4000 to $1200. The average cost is $5500, where $4000 is paid to the rhinoplasty surgeon, $700 is paid to the anesthesiologist, and the remaining $800 accounts for the facility fee. If the procedure is performed due to a health condition, the patient may be able to get insurance coverage.

The best candidates for this surgery are people looking for an improvement and not perfection. This surgery will not solve any life problems, but will just help with aesthetics. Realistic expectations are key.
