Calf surgery can help people define their calf muscles Some people find it difficult to develop their calf muscles through exercise, and their calf area remains undefined. Others may have an illness that causes the lower-body muscles to deteriorate and look smaller. Such inconveniences can be helped with calf surgery.
The incision is closed with stitches. The surgery takes about 45 minutes to an hour. Local anesthesia is usually used, along with sedation. However, general anesthesia may also be used. If there are no complications, the patient may return home within a few hours after the surgery. After the surgery, the calf area will feel sore. Swelling and bruising are also to be expected, and it can be helped with ice packs or medication. Most patients are advised to rest the legs for a week following the surgery, and keep them elevated for as much time as possible during the first week after surgery. |
Calf implants range in size and shape. They can be molded from calf muscles to achieve a realistic appearance in those with deteriorating muscles. Most of the implants are made from solid materials that are flexible, like silicone.
